Primary survey when helping someone in need-
Check for danger:
Sharp objects
Obstacles
Stone/pebbles
Water
STRANGER DANGER- tell someone if you do not know them and get extra help.
Response:
AVPU
A- alert?
V- voice ( first above, then into both ears…don’t lean across though)
P- pain ( tap on the collar bone with the back of your hands)
U- unresponsive
Now ask for help-
Check airways- check the tongue and help move it away:
Kneel down, hand on the forehead and lift the chin up to open up the airways. This will move the tongue away from the airway.
Then:
How many breaths are they taking within 10 seconds?
Count how many times they breathe in 10 seconds.
Then phone the ambulance service- tell them how many breaths in 10 seconds.
Recovery position: onto their side.
