We decided to see what we could remember about the circulatory system and made some models.

We have been using salt dough to create maps of South America.

Hawk owls have identified some 5 minute walk zones for children who come to school by car. We discussed the advantages of using them and made some persuasive leaflets.

We had fun solving problems in maths with Miss P-D. We used bar models to help us.

We had a go at devising questions with ‘yes’ and ‘no’ answers so that we could sort sweets into different groups. We didn’t eat the any of the specimens!

Our Christmas party day started with a great concert from Barnsley Music Service who played lots of Christmas hits. We all joined in. Thank you for all your support in2017.

Today we have started our new topic in literacy. We explored life on a new planet!

We used Newton metres and found out the difference between mass and weight today! Superb scientific thinking!

The big pedal is here!!! To celebrate, we are holding a ‘bike it breakfast’! This will include yummy pastries, fruit and other options will be available! If your child bikes or scoots to school on Monday, they will receive the breakfast!

Not only this, but Dr.Bike is coming to fix lots of bikes whilst he is here!

After performing Paul Cookson’s ‘Mrs Eagle’s Eyes’, our class was inspired! We added a chorus and here is the result!

Yesterday we explored the world, looking at the longitude and latitudes of the globe. We focussed on the tropics and the features of them and looked at the equator!

We then went on to discover the different types of deserts in the world, all in preparation for our topic work!

Today we have focussed on North America!

Great discussions in our class about the different features of animals. We looked at differences and similarities between animals to help put them into groups of mammals, insects, fish, birds, amphibians and reptiles!

The preparation for young voices was worth while! We had an awesome time!

Great start back in our class… We’ve hit the ground running with fractions in maths- the children have been looking at equivalent fractions using concrete resources to explore the different possibilities!

The children are looking at figurative language including personification, metaphors and similes! First of all, we need to experience the sounds and the visuals of The Blitz! We tried to make it realistic when the air raid siren went off….

We had to come up with lots of adjectives to describe our senses!

The children in Hawk Owls have absolutely smashed their maths today! After marking their books and seeing the progress in the formal written method for multiplication, I am so proud of what they’ve accomplished today! Well done today guys! #reasoningandproblemsolvingtomorrow

I’ve given out the spelling booklets for the children to get a head start on their spellings for next Friday.

Spellodrome is going to be a huge help with spellings this term as it will get the children to focus on the high frequency words we use all the time. With this, I encourage all Hawk Owls to get on there at least three times a week to earn points and certificates-this can also be done at school. I will ensure children have their log on to take home tomorrow.

Completing our maths problems today!

My class have blown me away this morning! The power of imagery has taken their imagination to the next level! I am so proud of them! Here’s a sneak preview of the work we’ve been doing…

We had a very fast paced day today! The children were buzzing with excitement when they came into the classroom from the very first minute! Kingswood is upon us and it is going to be AWESOMEEE!!! 1 more school day to go and we’ll be toasting marshmallows around the campfire before we know it!

The children are concentrating, focussing on their presentation and their editing this morning. We have some focus music on and the children are doing fab!

I’ve never seen so much excitement! Both girls were extremely proud of themselves for completing ‘maze100’!! This took a lot of determination and a lot of persevering! Well done…great attitude to learning and problem solving in maths!

Eagle Owls teamed up with Hawk Owls this afternoon and what a successful afternoon it has been. I have never seen team work like it! The eagle owls had a head start this morning so they had lots of tips up their sleeves to guide our class! I’m so proud of our year 5/6 team!!

After designing and thinking about accurately measuring the wooden man (that is currently dabbing on my desk haha), the children and thought about how it would fit the model- they made lots of alterations and learnt lots about how to attach the materials together.

The children were busy researching all different types of soldiers uniforms, taking the best features of all of them! Next stop….designing their own soldiers uniform!

Last week we learnt all about Judaism and focussed on The Torah! The children had an awesome day thinking and writing about special people in their life and what they were thankful for! We even made Mezuzahs!
